Estes Park - April 2012

All the national parks had a free entrance week at the end of April, so we took advantage of it and went to Estes Park.  Our main purpose was to eat at Poppy's (food as our motivation - shock!), but we also hiked a little bit too in the gorgeous, gorgeous weather.

Sunscreen is first, of course.  Get used to it, Baby Jack.  Odds of you being able to tan are NOT in your favor.

Finally prepped with adequate sun protection and ready to hike.  And for the record, we do realize now that the Ergo carrier isn't really supposed to be used like that.  I think Jack's hip sockets are unharmed despite our stupidity.

Beautiful.

We need to stay hydrated, Dad.

I wonder if they know that my legs aren't supposed to splay out this way.  Someone save me from these people.

Relaxing post-hike, before lunch.  Don't worry, we do still use a car seat.  :)

Jack - 6 Month Pictures

We had Jack's 6 month pictures taken around Easter and luckily, I loaded them in a draft post before I ran into my little picture-posting problem (hereby known as Triple P).  Enjoy these pictures of our cutie bug while I figure out how to solve Triple P (it's actually a pretty easy problem to fix, and now I'm just being dramatic).

Seven Months.

Weight - between 17 and 18 pounds
Length - longer than 27 inches
Head Circumference - ??

Clothing Size - The 6 month outfits and sleepers are pretty much done now and 9 month and 6-9 month sleepers fit you the best. You're wearing some 12m clothes. Diapers - size 3 and the medium setting of the BGs still.

Hair - Just continuing to fill out, and you've lost quite a bit of the Gene Wilder Wisp on the right.

Sleeping - Great! You still nap 3 to 4 times a day and sleep 9-10 hours at night. No changes here, and you've done well in the pack and play while traveling.

Teeth - I feel like you're teething, but nothing's come through yet.

No teeth?  So what?

Eating - Additions to your food repertoire this month were peas, avocado, peaches, carrots, and some baby food cans/squeezey pouch things. You don't like peas, avocado, or peaches (the last one was a surprise). You aren't drinking as much formula as you were last month now that you're eating two full meals of solids. You probably get about 25-28 oz a day now.  You had your last bottle of breastmilk at 6 months, 3ish weeks.  It was a little bit sad for me, but mainly I'm happy to have gotten you to almost 7 months with breastmilk every day and I feel so free now that I'm not lugging the pump everywhere.

Movement - You scoot backwards some but no crawling yet. You're close to being able to go from sitting to all fours, but not quite there yet.

Milestones - You now ride in your stroller without your car seat all the time, and we're getting close to putting away the Snap 'n Go. You were baptized the weekend of your 7 month birthday - more to come on that later.

Favorite toys/activities - You love your stacking cups, jumperoo, our cell phones, wrappers, and paper. You swipe at everything you can get your hands on!

Dislikes - When we leave the room, when we won't let you have our phones or iPad.

What we love - How you think everything we say is soooo funny right now. We love your smiley little face.

What we don't love - That your diaper isn't making it as long as you sleep at night now. Switching to Overnights tonight - hopefully that does the trick!

What we're looking forward to - Not much on the horizon, so I'll say a quiet month of playing and relaxing.

Oh the things that amuse us...

It doesn't take much more than a set of tags on a changing pad to amuse us and fill our evenings these days!

Here, for your viewing pleasure, is some baby-in-a-diaper cuteness, and step #35 of our bedtime routine...

Easter Recap

We spent Easter in Denver again this year and had a very nice weekend.  The Easter Bunny came, we went to church, then we ate Honeybaked Ham, cheesy potatoes, asparagus, melt-in-your-mouth yeast rolls (that once AGAIN did not rise - seriously, what am I doing wrong??), and key lime pie.  We finished up a great, relaxing day by watching the Masters while Jack napped.

We watched some Sesame Street on YouTube.

Jack wore a new, adorable 12m romper.

Six Months.

Happy six months, Baby Jack!  We can't believe you've been here half of a year already.  We have so enjoyed these last six months with you.

Weight - 16lbs 8 oz - 32nd percentile

Length - 26 3/4 in - 63rd percentile

Head Circumference - 17 1/4 in - 52nd percentile

Clothing Size - You're still in some 6 month outfits, but 9 month and 6-9 month sleepers fit you the best.  I put you in one of your 12 month Carter's rompers this weekend and it wasn't overly enormous on you.  You're getting so big!  You wear a size 3 diaper and you're still on the medium setting of BG's.

Hair - Your hair has really started to fill in more this month.  It's grown a lot on the top but the back has some catching up to do.  You still have your crazy Gene Wilder wisps.

Sleeping - With the exception of the week you had a sinus infection, your sleep has been pretty great.  You still nap 3 to 4 times a day and sleep 9-10 hours at night.  The biggest development in sleep is that we finally unswaddled you this weekend and you kept sleeping through the night without a hitch.  You still wear a sleepsack at night but your arms are finally free!  Victory.is.ours.

Teeth - none yet

Eating - Big changes on the eating front this month.  You now eat squash, sweet potatoes, pears, apples, and bananas in addition to your cereal.  You really hate green beans.  I've been having fun making your baby food!  You still have a few bottles of breastmilk everyday and the rest is formula.  Your total milk intake is still around 30oz a day.

Movement - You have gotten very good at sitting in the last week or so, and have been pulling your knees up underneath you while you're on your tummy.  I have a feeling that crawling is coming soon.  You figured out that the jumperoo is for jumping, and are a rolling fool whenever you're on the floor.  You're busy, busy, busy.

Milestones - First hotel stay, attending your first race to watch Dad at the finish line.

Favorite toys/activities - You're pretty into Bonnie now.  You love to hit pet her and watch her intently every time you're in the same room together.  You love to eat and read.  You love our usual songs and animal noises.  Your LeapFrog puppy, Scout, is pretty amusing and you like playing with your stacking donuts.  You're pretty into swiping things with your fingers, constantly.

Dislikes - When we leave the room and sitting still.

What we love - We love that you're quick to smile when we talk to you and it doesn't take much to get you to laugh anymore.  You were so easy when we had to give you medicine and handled a couple weeks of sickness like a real trooper.

What we don't love - Sickness attacking our baby, and when you flip over every time we change your diaper.

What we're looking forward to - another great six months with Baby Jack!

Not yet, babe.  We'll buy you some mum-mums this weekend instead.
