Headed to Our Last City...

I planned to blog tonight, but I'm kinda tired so this will do for now.

Brent and I left last Friday after work for an 11-night road trip to Louisiana and Texas. We just finished our one and only day in San Antonio and will head for Houston in the morning. We came from Austin this morning after spending three nights there. We love Austin! Yesterday also happened to be Lyndon B. Johnson's 100 birthday celebration, so we drove out to the Hill Country to check out the "Texas White House" near Stonewall. We're kinda LBJ'd out, as Brent proclaimed yesterday.

We will continue to eat our way through Texas before heading home Monday morning after Lucy's wedding. For now, I'll leave you with a few pictures to tide you over...

A Quick Blog for Good Measure...

It's Wednesday night already! This week is flying by! Here's a little recap of our weekend:

I made it home around 4:00 on Friday morning due to lovely US Airways and their flight delays. After working a full day (because there was stuff I felt like I just HAD to get done on Friday) on two hours of sleep I was pretty out of it that night and we didn't do much. Well, other than burning my arm in the oven while trying to take out a pizza. Someone with no sleep and correlated inertia problems (you know that feeling, like you can't stand up straight?) shouldn't be swinging her arm around in the oven. Correction: no one should swing their arm in the oven.

P.S. - I know this isn't a bad burn, but I had to include these pictures after I tried about 12 different times to make my arm look thin and not pasty while my husband watched in disbelief that I was taking pictures of my arm. That's his foot in the background.

On Saturday we went to our friend Lindsay's wedding. We've known Lindsay and her husband Craig since Brent and I started working with her in the summer of 2005 at BKD. Lindsay and I also interned together the summer before that, as well, she in the Indy office and me in Fort Wayne. She was also the friend who mentioned to me the fall after we started working that Brent was sure a nice guy and wouldn't I consider dating him? I had to break the news to her that Brent already had a girlfriend - me. Surprise!

Lindsay's mom made her dress and all the bridesmaids' dresses and they were all beautiful! If you live in the Indy area and need some alterations done (or a wedding dress made from scratch), she's the woman to call! I can get you her name and contact info if you need it, seriously.

Craig and Lindsay's reception was held in a neighborhood clubhouse close to our house, which made it pretty easy to dance the night away. I believe we were the last table left...we knew it was time to go when they whisked away our tablecloth.

You can't have enough pictures of the boys with their arms crossed!

Tonight we're packing for our roadtrip to New Orleans and Texas. We're leaving Friday after work and will be in New Orleans 2 nights, Austin, San Antonio, and finish in Houston for the Lovely Lucy's wedding. Cross your fingers that this girl has a good eating week so the zipper of her dress doesn't spontaneously rip open during the ceremony and takes someone out with the catapulting zipper handle. Yeah....little nervous about that one. Never, never, never order a bridesmaid dress that's a little smaller than you would normally wear and then count on losing a little weight. Oh wait, I believe everyone already knows that. Consider that a note to self.

Oh, and I leave you with puppy pictures! Yay for puppies! This one is Bonnie and her sister...I'm not sure which is Bonnie and which is her sister, but when we go to pick her up on the 22nd of September we'll find out then! :)

Live from Columbia, It's Tuesday Night!

Hi All,

Sorry for my temporary blogging hiatus. I'm back! No pictures for now, but better than nothing!

Yes, it is Tuesday night, which is good news since all day long I've been thinking it's Monday. What a pleasant surprise! :) This blog is coming to you from Columbia, South Carolina from my room at the Hyatt Place. Lovely accomodations, just lovely. And for just $87 a night! I'm here for a Leadership Bootcamp where I will be drafting my personal leadership essay/mantra/compass - whatever you want to call it. I'm not sure if any of my employees will care what my leadership mantra is, but I'm going to give it a shot. I learned lots of good tidbits today and hope to put them into practice. We flew in late last night and will get home late Thursday night, so quick trip.

So what's going on with us lately?

1. Football season is upon us - Brent got the Purdue tickets in the mail and went to the annual Fantasy Football draft party this Saturday night. He did not get Drew Brees as his QB, but I think otherwise he was pleased with his lineup. Any other details would have to come from him, because I'm out of them...

2. While Brent was at his party, I was in Kendallville this weekend for my college roommate's bridal shower. Lindsay is getting married on September 20 and I'm very happy for her! Her shower was at The Bagel Station (remember the yummy cake we took to Abba?) and was so nice. I was pleased to see the same cake on the table when I walked in. After the shower I met Mel and her man-friend Andy (as he's now called) at Starbucks. It was nice to catch up over our favorite beverage. Mom, Dad and Rob met me at The Cork'n Cleaver to celebrate Mom and Dad's 28th Anniversary. Yum!

3. I was in Columbus the last full week of July evaluating contract proposals for a manpower contract. The only reason I mention it is to show you where a full week of my every waking minute went, and also serve as an excuse for not blogging. We worked like DOGS. Like 12-14+ hours, order-pizza-in-the-lobby-of-the-hotel, 5 hours of sleep type of days. We finished what we went there to do, so yay for us!

4. On Friday the 1st we celebrated Rachel's graduation from grad school! We went to La Hacienda in Carmel with her family and some other friends. We went back to her brother's house later for cake and beverages. Congrats, Rachel!

5. I have to say we're pumped for Lindsay (different than Shower Lindsay in #2) and Craig's wedding this Saturday! We should get to see old BKD friends who we haven't really hung out with since a wedding last July.

6. This news is too exciting to be #6, but I'm too lazy to change the order now. We recently received news that our puppy-on-hold was born on July 26th! Bonnie the Westie will come home with us in mid-September. I've been promised pictures from her mom (until I'm her mom), but nothing yet. I'll post when they arrive.

7. We are only a week and a half away from our Louisiana/Texas roadtrip. Aghhh, I can hardly wait.

Random question - did anyone else hear about Angelina and Brad's plan to adopt more kids from Cambodia soon? I don't even know if it's Cambodia, but I'm hungry and I don't want to fact-find. Seriously, this is clearly the behavior of people who have a whole team of nannies to raise their children, because I don't know of anyone in their right minds who would be seriously considering adopting more children after just giving birth to BABY #5 and BABY #6! Thoughts please, or feel free to tell me if this is just celebrity gossip. I try not to get bogged down in any celebrity gossip because there are other things to talk about, but that was just too crazy when I read it.

Woe is Me...

Under the "Skills" section of my resume, just list "Poor File Manager".

So, I'm finishing up my group paper for Organizational Stewardship around 10:30 this evening, all pumped to go to bed at a decent time. This paper was around 26 pages when I closed it (with lots of spaces, don't worry).

I go to attach the file, and it's not there.

That's because I DIDN'T SAVE IT, BIG DUMMY!

Ugh. I'm sick to my stomach. I didn't lose all of it, just the two hours worth of work I put in tonight. Did I mention it's due tomorrow?

The re-creation is going okay...aided by an Oreo 100 Calorie pack and some milk.

Oh, and I also took a break from crying and pulling my hair out to sit downstairs in the dark with Brent while we watched the neighbor kitties fight with each other on our front porch. Hilarious. I think they were fighting over a large bug...either that or it was sexual tension. You know how cats can be.

I would insert a cool picture of a cat right here, except I clearly don't have time for that. :)

Goodness....

It's been a long time, friends! I apologize for that. I've been working like a dog, taking the CPA exam, and getting ready for a final paper and presentation next Tuesday. So, soooooorrrrry, Emma!

Ashley (of Ashley and Andrew fame) is here and we are going to spend the day walking, shopping, and eating. I'll post for real tomorrow!

Have a wonderful weekend...
